Nursing Recognition Program

Nightingale Award will be presented to a nursing staff member who inspires colleagues by demonstrating high standards, a dedicated willingness to “go above and beyond” to ensure positive outcomes, and a team mindset that makes them an indispensable member of the GBMC team. Any nursing staff member is eligible for the Nightingale Award. This is the only award that will be voted on LIVE at the Art of Nursing event.

This award has been established to recognize a nurse or a group of nursing staff who enhance integration, inclusion, and advocacy at GBMC HealthCare. Examples can be based on creating a positive environment for coworkers and/or patients and families, exemplifying mutual respect for qualities and experiences that are different from our own, and/or building alliances across differences to eradicate discrimination.

Nominees for the Clinical Assistant Support Award should demonstrate dedication to a team approach to care delivery. In addition, they should embody exceptional work ethic and exhibit distinguished interpersonal skills and a courteous nature. Candidates for this award include outstanding Nursing Support Technicians, Certified Nursing Assistants, Nursing Students, Geriatric Nursing Assistants, Certified Medical Assistants, and Multi-function Technicians in an inpatient or outpatient care setting. There will be two winners selected in this category: one inpatient and one outpatient.

The nurse clinician of the year award will be presented to the recipient who exhibits innovation, strong communication skills, expertise and personal attributes that contribute to the delivery of quality patient care. They must also demonstrate that they are a leader in the field of nursing while sharing in GBMC HealthCare's organizational vision, mission and values.

GBMC HealthCare recognizes excellence in designing, implementing, evaluating and conducting nursing research in the practice setting by awarding the Evidence-Based Practice Nursing Award. This award is given to an individual or group using research-based evidence to make a practice change that results in demonstrated improvement in outcomes for the patient and family, staff, community or organization. Examples: EBP project from Nurse Residency Program, unit-based EBP project, etc.

Mrs. Jeanne Baetjer was a founder of Greater Baltimore Medical Center. She served as the first President on the Board of Trustees at GBMC. Mrs. Baetjer was a civic philanthropist, active on the board of The Hospital for the Women of Maryland in Baltimore City, President of the Hospital for the Women of Maryland, and an incredibly strong leader. She was a key component of merging the Women's hospital with the Presbyterian Eye, Ear and Throat Charity Hospital, resulting in the creation of Greater Baltimore Medical Center. 

The Baetjer Nursing Graduate of the Year Award shall be awarded to a recently graduated individual that is within his or her first two years of Registered Nurse practice.

This award was established to recognize those nurses whose practice exemplifies effective communication and collaboration with the healthcare team and who regard the patient/family as the most important team members. This nurse understands that each patient and their family have highly individualized needs and abilities and applies that knowledge when providing patient education and care coordination.

The Nurse Leader Award shall be awarded to a nurse who has shown exceptional leadership. Nominees for this award can be either formal or informal leaders.
