Changes and Facility Improvements at GBMC
September 11, 2018GBMC is always iterating to ensure our facilities can offer the best care possible, the kind of care we would want for our own family members. To that end, we have been busy thus far in 2018, designing effective ways to serve our community, better.
Over the last several months, the top two floors of the William E. Kahlert Physicians Pavilion North building have been under major construction as we prepare to make it the home for a large physician practice and an ambulatory surgery center for Chesapeake Urology. The surgery center on the sixth floor will be up and running in a few months, and the practice will have a brand-new office suite on the fifth floor. The practice currently has three doctors on our campus and this expansion will allow them to increase to up to 15.
Speaking of new, we have a modern and beautiful Orthopedics office, located on the seventh floor of our Physician Pavilion West building. Modeled after our Family Care Associates practice, the space allows us to take walk-in patients during weekdays and evenings for injuries and allows you to avoid the Emergency Department.
And remember your mother's mantra of "practice, practice, practice" to perfect your piano skills? GBMC is living every mother's vision with a full-service Simulation Innovation Learning Center in the South Chapman Building. A new OR Simulation Lab, greatly beneficial to surgeons and patients, adds another layer to the existing simulation lab that has been serving as a comprehensive training center for physicians and clinicians for years.
The Center – focused on task-based training and replica hospital rooms, created to imitate real-life settings – train participants for almost any medical situation, from inserting an IV, to performing complex surgery, to practicing difficult conversations with patients. The Simulation Center is a critical part of GBMC Healthcare System's continuing education program, helping staff grow their skills and adapt to evolving medical techniques and technology.
