Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI)

CLABSI
A Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infection (CLABSI) is a serious infection that can occur when germs cause an infection in a patient's bloodstream through a central line. A central line is a tube inserted into a large vein in the neck, arm or chest that delivers fluids, blood, or medications. All patients with a central line are at risk for developing a CLABSI, which can cause complications and in some cases, be fatal. To reduce the risk of infection, GBMC clinicians educate patients about the risks associated with central lines and encourage patients to ask questions about the necessity of a central line and when it can be removed. The less time a central line is in place, the less likely it is to cause an infection.

Hand Hygiene Compliance Rate

Hand Hygiene
Hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways for patients and healthcare professionals to prevent the transmission of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Measuring hand hygiene compliance can help identify areas where improvement is needed and can ultimately lead to a reduction in the number of HAIs. Many hospitals have policies and guidelines in place regarding hand hygiene, and measuring compliance can help ensure that healthcare workers are following these policies.

Average HCAHPS Scores

HCAHPS
HCAHPS is short for Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems. It's a survey created by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in the US to ask patients what they think about the care they received at the hospital. The survey asks about things like how well doctors and nurses communicate, how pain is managed, if the hospital is clean and quiet as well as how likely patients are to recommend the hospital. The results of the survey help hospitals improve the care they give and let patients make better choices about where to go for care.

Gilchrist Hospice Patients' Comfort with 24 Hours

Gilchrist
Gilchrist Hospice Care helps people with end stage diseases who experience pain. Their goal is to make patients comfortable within 24 hours of any incident of pain. It's important for patients to get relief quickly so that they can spend quality time with loved ones at the end of life. Patients and families should ask their care providers questions about the medication being administered and potential side effects. Pain levels are routinely assessed and medication is adjusted as necessary. For patients who can't communicate, care providers look for non-verbal clues to determine if the patient is experiencing pain. Patients are monitored until their signs and symptoms of pain have been relieved.
