Orthoptic Fellowship Training

GBMC Orthoptic Fellowship

Orthoptics is an allied health field in ophthalmology which involves the evaluation and treatment of pediatric and adult patients with visual disorders, emphasizing binocular vision and eye movements. Orthoptists are uniquely skilled in diagnostic techniques, clinical interpretation and therapeutic modalities. Orthoptists may serve their communities in private ophthalmology practices or in hospitals or medical centers. Orthoptists are involved in patient care, clinical research and may serve as directors or advisors of vision screening programs.

The GBMC Orthoptic Fellowship is a two-year, comprehensive, accredited program of academic and clinical instruction in orthoptics and related ophthalmic studies. Set in a clinical teaching environment, orthoptic education is taught through didactic instruction and clinical exposure. We serve patients of all ages from children to adults with binocular disorders. We have an experienced staff of orthoptists and ophthalmologists dedicated to patient care, education, and clinical teaching of residents and fellows.

Upon successful completion of the orthoptic fellowship, candidates will be eligible to become nationally certified orthoptists through written, oral and practical board examinations.
