GBMC HealthCare takes pride in recognizing employees for their talent and dedication. See below to learn about numerous ways to be recognized or to recognize a colleague.

Four Aims Recognition

Description: The Four Aims Recognition (FAR) program rewards employees that make exceptional contributions to GBMC HealthCare that can tie back to our four aims of Better Health, Better Care, Least Waste and More Joy. 
Who can submit? Managers/supervisors 
Who is eligible? Any employee, regardless of role or level 
Submission Period: Ongoing; submit as soon as possible after the act you’re recognizing

Peer-to-Peer Recognition – Exceptional Effort Award

This is a formal way of recognizing a coworker for exceptional actions, particularly in difficult or challenging circumstances. Examples include extra effort in supporting a patient or employee, covering an additional or special entire shift, going out of their way to provide extra services, working significantly beyond scope of work to support a patient, family, or fellow employee, determining an innovative method of work. 

Who can submit: Any employee, regardless of role or level 
Who is eligible: Any employee, regardless of role or level 
Submission Period: Ongoing; submit as soon as possible after the act you’re recognizing

Peer-to-Peer Recognition – Pat-on-the-Back Award

This is an informal way to recognize a supportive coworker. These individuals go above and beyond in certain situations and deserve to be recognized by a colleague. Examples include having an exceptionally positive attitude, helping in wayfinding, adding some time to a shift to help out and thinking smart in challenging situations.

Who can submit: Any employee, regardless of role or level 
Submission Period: Ongoing; submit as soon as possible after the act you’re recognizing

Nancy J. Petrarca Compassionate Caregiver Award

This award is presented by the Dr. John Adams Rounds Committee recognizes and supports employees, physicians, nurses, office staff and volunteers who work in various ways to provide compassionate care of exceptional quality at GBMC HealthCare.

The award recognizes individuals, who in listen, support, advocate and understand what patients and their caregivers are going through.  They should have a special talent and dedication that enables them to demonstrate concern for others and incorporate this concern into their daily work or practice.

Who can submit: Any employee, regardless of role or level 
Who is eligible: All employees, physicians, nurses, office staff and volunteers 
Submission Period: September through November 30 
Awards Announced: February

Spirit of King

The GBMC Spirit of King Award is given to an individual who embodies the spirit and life's work of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., minister, social activist, and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Who can submit: Any employee, regardless of role or level 
Who is eligible: Any employee, regardless of role or level 
Submission Period: December through mid-January 
Awards Announced: January, during MLK commemoration

Great Saves

GBMC HealthCare regularly recognizes staff throughout our work systems who have used safe behaviors and systems to prevent harm. Those recognized demonstrate our culture of safety and continuous improvement so we can deliver on our vision to provide every patient with the care we would want for our own loved ones. 

Who can submit: Any employee, regardless of role or level 
Who is eligible: Any employee, regardless of role or level 
Submission Period: Ongoing 
Awards Announced: Every 4 months, approximately

Art of Nursing

Description: Art of Nursing offers eight award categories to honor nursing staff across the entire GBMC HealthCare system (main hospital, GBMC Health Partners, Gilchrist or home-based/in-the-field). Nursing staff can apply or nominated a colleague, and non-nursing staff may submit nominations as well.

Who can submit: Any employee, regardless of role or level 
Who is eligible: Nursing staff 
Submission period: Opens in December, closes in mid-January 
Awards announced: In May, during Nurses Week

DAISY

DAISY awards recognize nurses or care teams that are role models for GBMC's vision, "To every patient, every time, we will provide the care that we would want for our own loved ones." DAISY award submissions must be tied to a specific story that demonstrates how the nurse or team went above and beyond. 

Who is eligible: 
Nurses or care teams who have:

  • Made a special connection with a patient/family through trust and emotional support
  • Went above and beyond the patient/family's expectations and/or significantly affected clinical outcomes
  • Included you and your family in your ongoing plan of care
  • Presented customized education or discharge plan that is easily understood
  • Utilized the expertise of other team members to resolve issues and answer questions

Who can submit: Anyone, clinical or nonclinical, as well as volunteers and the community 
Submission period: Ongoing 
Awards announced: This varies, but typically individual recognitions are announced quarterly and team recognitions are announced annually
