The Division of Pulmonary Diseases focuses on diagnosing and treating conditions that include, but are not limited to, pulmonary hypertension, COPD, asthma, bronchitis and evaluation of those with abnormal X-rays and lung cancer. Our specialists bring their expertise to various hospital committees to improve patient care and reduce costs for inpatients admitted with respiratory problems.

How can I find out if I have COPD?
COPD is diagnosed based upon investigation of the history of cough, shortness of breath and smoking. The history is considered in conjunction with x-rays and pulmonary function tests to determine if you have COPD.
How can you evaluate shortness of breath?
In order to evaluate shortness of breath, you will need to share a detailed medical history with your health care provider, who will also perform a physical exam. The physical can help your physician to assess whether the cause of your breath is related to pulmonary conditions, cardiac conditions, metabolic issues, anemia, etc.
Do I have asthma?
Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways and can be triggered by things such as pollution and allergies. Further investigation with an allergist can be performed to diagnose and treat asthma.
Why do I have a cough?
Cough can be secondary to allergies, inflammatory diseases, infections, bronchitis, reflux, sinuses, etc. In order to diagnose the problem properly, you would need an extensive evaluation to rule out/pinpoint causes.
Do I need oxygen therapy?
Treatment with oxygen therapy is subject to many regulations and guidelines. An evaluation to determine oxygen saturation at rest, while walking and exercising, and while sleeping must be performed to find out if oxygen therapy is right for you.
