T. Rowe Price Education Fund Supports Employees in Their Continued Education
March 1, 2022On January 19, 44 GBMC employees were awarded scholarships from the T. Rowe Price Family Education Fund in a virtual ceremony. The Education Fund was founded in 1973 by the Price family.
During what has been a challenging time for healthcare workers, these employees and others remain committed to continuing their education and, in turn, strengthening patient care and outcomes.
"It is an honor to support those who use free time after working hours a day on their job to continue their education,” Tom Price, a GBMC volunteer and manager of the Education Fund, said. “You may not work in the same units, but you all have something in common. You have persevered during a pandemic and continued to seek an education while under the stress of uncertain conditions. You are unsung heroes. Please know I and others are proud of you.”
This one-of-a-kind program supplements the GBMC Human Resources tuition reimbursement program and assists employees who are pursuing all levels of continuing education and advanced degrees with everything from tuition and books to computer equipment and lab fees.
“Being awarded the T. Rowe Price Scholarship allowed me to graduate school a year early,” Kiara King, Systems Admin/IT Security Analyst, said. “It helped pay for classes when I fell short in financial aid. It’s a great resource to have when student loans are maxed.”
King was one of eight employees who graduated from their respective programs in 2021. She received a Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology from the University of Phoenix. Others received bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degrees from schools such as Johns Hopkins, Drexel University, and Chatham University.
