Self-quarantine and social distancing in our community can help reduce the spread of COVID-19, but for many survivors of domestic violence, staying home may not be the safest option. External factors such as added stress and financial strain make it extra complicated to flee unsafe situations and increasingly dangerous to remain in close proximity to abusive partners. Abuse is about power and control, and when the community is encouraged to remain in their homes, an abuser may take advantage of an already stressful situation.
