GBMC Celebrates Yaggy Society
June 6, 2024GBMC President and CEO, John B. Chessare, MD, MPH, hosted a luncheon for GBMC benefactors on May 10 in the new Women's Hospital Foundation Conference Center in the Louis & Phyllis Friedman Building. Dr. Chessare, past and present members of the GBMC Board among other GBMC leaders gathered to celebrate the loyal supporters who have included a provision for the organization in their estate plans.
GBMC HealthCare Board Chair, Faith E. Thomas, Esq., welcomed and thanked guests, as she began the program.
Gift Planning Advisory Board Chair, Yaggy Society and Board member Jerry D. Focas, Esq., shared his thoughts about the importance of philanthropy at GBMC.
“Mrs. Yaggy clearly understood this more than 60 years ago when she made the first gift to kick off the capital campaign to fund the purchase of the property upon which GBMC sits today," Focas said. “The vision and generosity of leaders like Mrs. Yaggy and so many others have made GBMC what it is today.”
Mrs. Yaggy’s son and Yaggy Society member, Michael, and his wife, Nora, helped to honor his family’s legacy, relating memories of the original groundbreaking and grand opening of GBMC in the 1960s.
Richard F. “Dick” Price, a member of GBMC’s Yaggy and 1965 Societies spoke about his family’s desire to give back to their community by ensuring a strong future for GBMC.
Dr. Chessare delivered a GBMC state-of-the-union address in which he encapsulated the success of GBMC’s recent capital expansion, The Promise Project.
“In addition to having a well-established system that cares for patients from birth to the end of life and at every point along the way, we have a new main entrance, a grand lobby, conference center, chapel, and two of the most advanced medical units in the region," he said.
