Robert K Brookland, MD, FACRO, FACR

A board-certified radiation oncologist and the Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology for the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute at GBMC, Robert K. Brookland, MD graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine. At the University of Pennsylvania, he served as Chief Resident and American Cancer Society Fellow in Radiation Oncology. He has been published in the areas of sarcoma, breast, genitourinary and gynecological malignancies.

Dr. Brookland has been on the Medical Advisory Committee for the Governor’s Cancer Commission, Maryland Board of Physician Quality Assurance, and chaired the Peer Review Committee for the Baltimore County Medical Association, where he serves as a member of the Board of Governors. Dr. Brookland served as Chairman of the Board for the American Cancer Society’s Maryland, Mid-Atlantic and South Atlantic Divisions, and served on its National Board of Directors where he was Chair of its Mission Outcomes Committee.

He has been an active lobbyist in Annapolis, fighting for Tobacco Control legislation and mammography coverage, and has been a guest lecturer at Towson University. Dr. Brookland has received the Mindell Cancer Foundation Humanitarian Award, the St. George Medal, (American Cancer Society), the Thomas E. Hobbins Award (Maryland Medical Society), and the Abeloff Award for Public Health (State of Maryland).

He has also served as Chair of the GBMC Foundation and is a member of the GBMC HealthCare Board of Directors.

Dr. Brookland is currently Chair of the American Joint Committee on Cancer and an editor of the 8th edition of the AJCC staging manual. He also sits on the Executive Committee of the Commission on Cancer.
