About Me
Ellen Deibert MD FAHA, is the Division Chief of GBMC Health Partners Center for Neurology. A board-certified neurologist, she has a long-standing interest in the management of patients with traumatic and acquired brain injuries. She completed medical school at Temple University School of Medicine in 1993, followed by an internship in Internal Medicine at Temple University. She then completed her Neurology Residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, serving as Chief Resident during her final year.
To further her knowledge of traumatic brain injury, Dr. Deibert completed fellowships in Neurocritical Care and Neurorehabilitation at Washington University School of Medicine and stayed on faculty in the departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery until 2003. Currently she is subspecialty board-certified in Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry and Brain Injury Medicine.
Following her time at Washington University, Dr. Deibert worked in the community to develop brain injury programs for rural systems in Massachusetts. This included implementing ImPACT (a computerized cognitive test for concussion) in local public schools, brain injury clinics at Berkshire Medical Center and Baystate Medical Center in collaboration with Trauma Surgery, and from 2010-2013 worked in private practice focusing on the treatment of brain injury survivors.
From 2013 until April 2021, Dr. Deibert worked as a staff neurologist for WellSpan Adult Neurology and was a Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology with Drexel University School of Medicine. She served as one of the stroke neurologists on the inpatient team and also had an ambulatory clinic with primary focus on stroke and traumatic brain injury survivors. She served as the Drexel Neurology Clerkship Site Director at WellSpan for three years. From 2014-2021, she served as Medical Director at Acadia Inc, a neurorehabilitation facility in Lancaster that provides both rehabilitation and residential services for TBI survivors.
At the GBMC Center for Neurology, Dr. Deibert continues to see patients who have complications related to traumatic injuries with also a specific interest in the treatment in survivors of Intimate Partner Violence and Strangulation. She also sees patients who have symptoms from dementia, intracranial hemorrhage, stroke, anoxic injury, or neuropsychiatric complications of encephalitis and other disorders of the brain. Since July 1, 2021 Dr. Deibert took on the role of the Medical Director of Stroke for GBMC, a Primary Stroke Center. Moving forward, she hopes to expand neurological services for the community by building programs through collaborative relationships across the system.
