About Me
Dr. Patrick Byrne, MD MBA is the co-Director of the Randolph B Capone Cleft lip and Palate team, and a founding member since 2004, along with Dr. Capone, and Dr. Kline. He is a double board certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, and internationally renowned for his innovative treatment to treating children with congenital facial anomalies, including facial paralysis.
Dr. Byrne served for almost two decades as the Director of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Johns Hopkins before taking the position of Chair, Cleveland Clinic Head and Neck Institute, in 2020. He holds the position of Professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. In 2023 he was named Enterprise Chief, Cleveland Clinic Surgical Specialties Institute.
Dr. Byrne has a particular love not only for cleft care, but also for Greater Baltimore Medical Center. In addition to the bonds he has developed with his co team members over many years on the Cleft Lip and Palate team, his own four children were all born at GBMC. Dr. Byrne has volunteered overseas providing pro bono care for children with cleft lip and palate annually for his entire career. He led the establishment of a fully functioning multidisciplinary Cleft Lip and Palate program in Managua, Nicaragua. Dr. Byrne maintains a residence in Baltimore, and splits his time between Cleveland and Baltimore to carry on his beloved cleft work, and helping to train the next generation of surgeons. Dr. Byrne appreciates greatly the team approach, including with his fellow surgeons. He feels that the relationships he make with the children and their families is the most rewarding aspect of his career.
