About Me
James C. Johnston, MD, has joined Orthopaedic Specialists of Maryland at GBMC as a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacements and geriatric hip fracture prevention. A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Dr. Johnston completed his internship, residency and chief residency in orthopaedic surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He continued his training by completing a fellowship in hip and knee replacements at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is an active Fellow of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
Prior to his arrival at GBMC, Dr. Johnston was employed at Maine General Medical Center, where he performed hundreds of primary and revision joint replacements annually and helped expand their Joint Replacement Program. While there, he also worked with primary care providers to initiate a Fracture Liaison Program that helped to ensure elderly patients with fractures were assessed and treated for osteoporosis in order to prevent fractures in the future.
