Laurie R. Beyer, MBA, CPA
An accomplished and results-oriented executive with more than 25 years of experience, Ms. Beyer joined GBMC’s leadership team in October 2017. She came to GBMC from Union Hospital of Cecil County, where she served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for 11 years. During that time, she developed high-performing finance and revenue cycle teams, facilitated the conversion to the HSCRC’s Total Patient Revenue System, and led the successful implementation of the hospital’s electronic medical record. She previously served as the Corporate Controller at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore and held financial management positions at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, and Liberty Medical Center. She also acted as Corporate Controller for GBMC from 1995 to 1996.
A Certified Public Accountant licensed in the State of Maryland, Ms. Beyer holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration/Accounting from Franklin and Marshall College in addition to a Master of Business Administration from the University of Baltimore.
She and her husband have two teenage children. Ms. Beyer’s hobbies include playing golf, watching sporting events, and Pilates.
Joshua Campbell
With over two decades of experience in healthcare finance and operations, Josh has been instrumental in leading GBMC's reimbursement strategies, financial planning, and overseeing our annual operating and capital budgets. During his time at GBMC, he has directed the planning and execution of the health system’s $700 million budget, identified numerous financial improvement targets, and collaborated with leaders to drive these improvements. His leadership during the cyber-attack and the COVID-19 pandemic was pivotal. Josh's expertise and commitment to financial excellence in healthcare are also reflected in his status as a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Carolyn L. Candiello
Carolyn L. Candiello joined GBMC HealthCare in October 2010 as Vice President for Quality and Patient Safety and serves as a member of the organization's Executive Team.
A veteran of more than two decades in the healthcare industry, nearly half of that time spent in the quality, safety and patient satisfaction arena, Candiello has broad experience in performance improvement, risk management, medical staff services, patient safety and regulatory affairs. She has responsibility for leading the continuous improvement process of quality of care for patients across the GBMC HealthCare system and providing oversight for compliance and interactions with clinical regulatory agencies such as the Joint Commission and the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Candiello served on the Board of Examiners for the National Baldridge Performance Excellence Program.
Immediately prior to joining GBMC, Candiello served as the Director, Quality and Patient Safety at Holy Family Hospital, a 271-bed acute care hospital located in Methuen, Mass. She has also held quality and safety positions with a small not-for-profit system and with the University of Massachusetts healthcare system.
Candiello earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and leadership from Fitchburg State College, earning summa cum laude honors. She also holds a Masters Degree in Leadership and Management from Notre Dame of Maryland University.
John B. Chessare, MD, MPH
An active and visionary leader in the healthcare field for more than three decades and a pediatrician by training, Dr. Chessare served as president of Caritas Christi Health Care System's Caritas Norwood Hospital, a 264-bed hospital located just outside of Boston, Mass. from September 2005 through October 2008. In addition to his duties at Caritas Norwood, he was the senior vice president for quality and patient safety of the entire Caritas system and served as the system's interim president from May of 2006 until May of 2008.
Dr. Chessare has held several other executive level healthcare leadership roles, including at Boston Medical Center/Boston University School of Medicine from 1998 to 2005; at Albany Medical Center/Albany Medical College from 1994 to 1998; and at the Medical College of Ohio from 1983 to 1994.
Dr. Chessare joined GBMC after working as a consultant with regional and national healthcare organizations focusing on operational changes to improve patient flow and patient satisfaction while reducing costs. Additionally, he served as faculty for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the Institute for Healthcare Optimization in seminars on improving hospital operations.
With a proven track record as both a strong executive leader and a highly respected physician, Dr. Chessare has led clinical and administrative teams of organizations toward improvement in health outcomes, patient and staff satisfaction as well as reduced wait times and profit maximization. He has been instrumental in a number of quality and performance improvement initiatives, including the implementation of Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) and oversight of system-wide clinical quality and patient safety measures.
Dr. Chessare has attained fellowship status in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He earned his medical degree from the University of Rome in 1979, completed his pediatric residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center - where he served as chief resident in pediatrics, and completed fellowship training in General Academic Pediatrics at Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Chessare completed his Masters of Public Health in Medical Care Organization from the University of Michigan School of Public Health.
Jenny Coldiron
Jenny Coldiron joined GBMC HealthCare in May 2011 in a dual role as Vice President of Development and President of the GBMC Foundation and serves as a member of the organization’s Executive Team. In 2018, Ms. Coldiron expanded her role to include oversight of the Marketing Department. Ms. Coldiron has 30 years of experience as a philanthropy professional and is responsible for overseeing all philanthropic and communications activities for the system. She is skilled in principal, planned, and major gift fundraising, corporate development, and special event management. Her extensive capital campaign experience has been invaluable for GBMC, resulting in several innovations for patients including a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department Behavioral Health Unit, and the Kroh Center for Digestive Disorders.
Under Ms. Coldiron’s leadership, several critical community support programs are sustained through endowments, totaling $19.6 million. These programs offer essential services to children and adults, regardless of their ability to pay: the Greater Baltimore Cleft Lip and Palate Center, the Child Life Program at GBMC, the GBMC Sexual Assault Forensic Examination and Domestic Violence Program, Oncology Support Services, and an Advanced Primary Care practice at the Helping Up Mission in Baltimore City. In total, Ms. Coldiron is responsible for raising more than $243 million for GBMC HealthCare over the last 12 years. Furthermore, she has created and solidified a culture of philanthropy at GBMC HealthCare that will have a lasting societal impact on Greater Baltimore and beyond.
Previously, Ms. Coldiron worked for the American Cancer Society’s South Atlantic Division, where she served as Vice President of Campaign Development (2005 – 2011), Director of Distinguished Gifts (2002-2004), Corporate Relations Director (2000-2002) and Income Development Manager (1996-2000). Among her accomplishments at ACS, Ms. Coldiron was instrumental in raising $10 million to support Patient Resource Navigation positions for the Cancer Resource Network; one of these navigators is assigned to GBMC’s Sandra & Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute. Prior to her positions with ACS, Ms. Coldiron worked in philanthropy for the Maryland chapters of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and the Leukemia Society of America.
William "Jason" Cole
As SVP and CIO, Mr. Cole is instrumental in driving GBMC's IT strategies and initiatives forward, ensuring GBMC remains at the forefront of technology leading to better health and better care.
Mr. Cole brings over two decades of extensive experience in leveraging technology to drive financial, organizational, clinical, and patient-centered changes across various sectors, including healthcare and academia. With a proven track record of success, Mr. Cole has consistently demonstrated an ability to innovate while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
Mr. Cole has held prominent positions at Meritus Health and Johns Hopkins Health System, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and strategic vision. At Meritus Health, he served as Vice President and Chief Information Officer, and concurrently as CIO for the Proposed Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine. Prior to this, he was the Senior Director of IT at Johns Hopkins Health System, responsible for IT operations at Suburban Hospital as well as previous leadership roles with Johns Hopkins Community Physicians locations.
In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Cole has pursued extensive education and training to support his expertise. He holds a Bachelor of Science from York College of Pennsylvania. He has also completed the Johns Hopkins Leadership Development Program and has education in Epic Community Connect, Advanced Computer Technology Training (ACTT), and as a legacy Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.
Angie Feurer, DNP, RN, NEA-BC
Angie Feurer, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, was named Chief Nursing Officer of GBMC in November 2022. Angie has been a nurse leader for 24 years, including her most recent role as Director of the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Medicine/Telemetry, SAFE, and the Stroke Program. Angie played a critical role as an Incident Commander during COVID-19.
Prior to coming to GBMC, Angie worked as the Assistant Nurse Manager for the Neuroscience Critical Care Unit and then as Nurse Manager of the Neuroscience Acute Care and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She earned a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from Stevenson University and her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Towson University. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice at the University of Maryland.
John L. Flowers, MD, FACS
John L. Flowers, MD, is Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, as well as President of GBMC Health Partners. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Hahnemann University College of Medicine. He completed his residency in General Surgery at the University of Maryland and was the first ever Fellow in Surgical Laparoscopy and Endoscopy there. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of several specialty societies.
Catherine Y. Hamel
In her role, Cathy is responsible for the development, oversight, and management of the GBMC HealthCare enterprise-wide post acute network including Gilchrist, Maryland's largest hospice organization. Additionally, Hamel oversees the organization's redesign work aimed at making care more coordinated through the eyes of the patient and provide administrative oversight for the Gilchrist practices and the care management department. Hamel also serves as a member of the GBMC HealthCare Executive Team.
A proven leader in operations management, Cathy joined GBMC's Gilchrist as Chief Operating Officer in 2008 and was named its Executive Director in late 2009. She has more than 20 years experience in healthcare management in businesses ranging from small physician practices to Fortune 500 companies
With Gilchrist, Hamel was responsible for a $35 million, 286 FTE employee hospice operation providing primarily facility and home-based care for an active patient census of more than 550 patients daily. Hamel also managed a geriatric and palliative medicine practice, and led development and opening efforts for a pediatric hospice program, Gilchrist Kids.
Hamel earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Temple University, earning summa cum laude honors. She is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the Hospice Alliance, Maryland Hospice Network and Foundation for Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Erlene Hanley Washington, CPA
Ms. Washington has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare finance, operations, and strategic planning. She previously served as Senior Vice President of Finance and Accounting at Crystal Run HealthCare, LLP, a complex multi-specialty physician group in Middletown, New York. There, she was responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all aspects of business and financial operations, including strategic growth and acquisition planning, as well as capital funding. She has also held significant leadership positions at Southern New Hampshire Health System, Boston Medical Center, Partners Healthcare Systems, and Coopers and Lybrand. Ms. Washington holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wellesley College and a Master of Arts degree from Bentley College, both located in Massachusetts.
Carl S. Jean-Baptiste, JD
Before joining GBMC, Mr. Jean-Baptiste had an impressive track record in healthcare, law, and in the community. As a Partner at Gallagher, Evelius, and Jones since 2017, he provided invaluable counsel to a wide array of healthcare entities, including health systems, hospitals, nursing homes, and physician groups. His expertise in transactional matters, corporate compliance, and regulatory issues was a cornerstone in the success and growth of these organizations.
From 2012 to 2017, as the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Dimensions Health System, Mr. Jean-Baptiste played a pivotal role in advising multiple Health System Boards of Directors on crucial legal and governance matters. His strategic input was instrumental in shaping corporate compliance and risk management functions.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Jean-Baptiste served as Senior Corporate Counsel/Hospital Counsel from 1997 to 2012, where he provided comprehensive legal advice to various MedStar Health institutions. Mr. Jean-Baptiste’s progressive responsibilities in this role underscore his ability to navigate complex legal landscapes with agility and foresight.
In addition to his professional work, Carl has been an active member of the community. As a Board Member and Chair of Bon Secours Community Works, he ensured housing and support programs for the underserved in West Baltimore. Prior to that, Mr. Jean-Baptiste’s work as a Board Member of the Casey Cares Foundation brought uplifting programming to critically ill children and families.
Yuliya Klopouh, PharmD
Since joining GBMC in 2018, Yuliya has driven significant advancements in pharmacy, optimizing inventory and formulary management, and expanding clinical pharmacy services. This includes the establishment of a new Specialty and Retail Pharmacy serving employees, patients, and providers. Yuliya has completed Baldrige Framework for Excellence training and was recognized as a member of the 2022 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Board of Examiners. Under her leadership, GBMC recently introduced an accredited Pharmacy Residency Program to support the training of the next generation of healthcare providers. Additionally, Yuliya plays an active role on the Philanthropy Committee.
Stacey McGreevy, CPA
Stacey McGreevy, CPA, was named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of GBMC in July 2022. In this role, Stacey leads the hospital work system and is responsible for its financial and daily operational activities. Stacey has been with GBMC for more than 25 years in several important roles including Vice President of Support Services, Manager of Finance and Regulatory Compliance, Director of Internal Audit and Compliance, and Chief Audit, Compliance and Privacy Officer.
Stacey developed GBMC’s first Internal Audit Department and Compliance Program and facilitated establishment of an independent Audit and Compliance Committee of the Board of Directors. Previously, she served as GBMC’s Administrator for Ancillary and Support Services, managed a $50 million annual budget, and was responsible for oversight of construction management, facilities and plant operations, clinical engineering, food and nutrition services, housekeeping, transport, emergency management, volunteers, and inpatient pharmacy.
Stacey’s leadership in GBMC’s strategic deployment process resulted in over $2 million in savings in purchased services and pharmaceutical expenses. Under her leadership, GBMC has developed a 10-year master facility plan, which includes bringing The Promise Project to fruition.
Prior to joining GBMC, Ms. McGreevy was employed as Internal Audit Director at Johns Hopkins Health System and as an audit senior with Ernst & Young. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Loyola College in Maryland and is a licensed certified public accountant in the state of Maryland
Robin M. Motter-Mast, DO, MBA, FAAFP, CPE
Robin Motter-Mast, DO, MBA, FAAFP, CPE, is the Chief of Staff at GBMC HealthCare and the Medical Director of Care Transformation. She also serves as a board-certified Family Medicine Physician at GBMC Health Partners Primary Care – Hunt Manor. Dr. Motter-Mast earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and then completed a 1-year internship at Crozer-Chester Medical Center/Delaware County Memorial Hospitals outside of Philadelphia. She went on to complete her residency in Family Medicine at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore.
Dr. Motter-Mast began her career with GBMC in 2005, and has helped the organization to develop and manage one of the largest primary care networks in the Baltimore area. She has assisted in the development and implementation of the Patient Centered Medical Home model, one of the first Accountable Care Organizations in Maryland, process improvement activities such as Lean Daily Management and Six Sigma, and the Sheppard Pratt Integrated Behavioral Health at GBMC Health Partners collaborative partnership in primary care. She was integral in the health care system being selected to participate in a Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Health Care Innovation Award for the Patient Centered Neighborhood in 2012 and leading the organizations movement and implementation of telehealth across the system.
Dr. Motter-Mast has co-directed the strategy and creation of the Greater Baltimore Health Alliance Care Transformation Organization in the Maryland Primary Care Program for GBMC. She served as Chairman of GBMC’s Family Medicine Department from 2008-2016 and as the Medical Director of Primary Care, Population Health, and Community Benefits at GBMC from 2016-2020. She believes in improving the U.S. Healthcare System through pursuit of the triple aim: delivering the highest quality care at the lowest possible cost with the best patient experience. Care redesign is one of Dr. Motter-Mast’s passions.
Anna-Maria Gonzalez Palmer
Anna-Maria Gonzalez Palmer joined GBMC HealthCare in May 2017 as Vice President of Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer. Anna-Maria is an accomplished leader who has served in the human resources field with a number of organizations including McCormick and Company and Textron. Prior to her hire at GBMC, she held the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer of Compass Pointe Healthcare System in Baltimore, Maryland. Anna-Maria earned her Bachelor of Science degree from West Virginia University and her master’s degree in Administrative Science, Human Resources Development from The Johns Hopkins University.
Brian Riemer
Brian has driven significant improvements in our supply chain functions, managing a $34 million annual budget and achieving a 54% reduction in distribution expenses and a 29% reduction in total joint and spinal implant pricing. His innovative strategies ensured an uninterrupted PPE supply during COVID-19, contributing to GBMC winning the 2020 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Brian is a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt with a strong track record in process improvement and staff development.
Michael W. Stein, MHSA, FACMPE
Michael W. Stein, MHSA, FACMPE, was named Vice President of Clinical and Support Operations in November 2022.
Michael has been the Executive Director of Oncology Services at GBMC since 2014. In this role, Michael helped greatly expand the cancer program, adding services such as symptom management, GI Oncology multidisciplinary program, an Owings Mills medical oncology and infusion location, and integrative medicine. He was instrumental in helping to rein in oncology drug costs for both patients and the hospital through a number of tactics, ultimately leading to total deregulation of oncology drug expense. Mike helped envision, plan, design and fundraise for the Sandra R. Berman Pavilion, the future home of the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute.
Over the last two years he has also served as the Service Line Administrator for the Laboratory and Imaging Services. In those roles, Michael has helped lead succession planning, budgeting, and business development, in addition to operational oversight and system integration for these two essential clinical services. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Pennsylvania and his master’s degree in health services administration from the George Washington University School of Public Health. He is a Fellow of the American College of Medical Practice Executives and serves on several boards for community organizations.
Mr. Stein oversees oncology, radiology, laboratory, volunteers, food and nutrition, environmental services, patient transport, and the Service Response Center (SRC).
Lisa Walker
In November 2021, Lisa Walker was appointed Chief Diversity and Learning Officer at GBMC HealthCare System. Before being named CDLO, Lisa was the Director of Learning & Organization Development, Diversity and Inclusion, and was responsible for driving organizational learning and diversity & inclusion efforts across three work systems. Lisa has oversight of implementing long-term phased strategies and leads the team responsible for the delivery of DEI and learning initiatives and programs. Additionally, in her role, Lisa partners with stakeholders to create a learning organization and advance health equity for patients and equitable treatment of all staff.
Lisa has over 20 years of human resources experience with an extensive career in leading organizational learning, workforce development and diversity initiatives in healthcare, higher education and within the private sector. In her spare time, Lisa serves an adjunct faculty instructor for Anne Arundel Community College, where she has taught various continuing education courses since 2007.
Lisa earned her Master of Arts in Organization Management and her Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Towson University.
