Record Number of Employees Awarded Scholarships for Continuing Education
March 8, 2021On January 13, a record 52 recipients at GBMC were awarded scholarships from the T. Rowe Price Family Education Fund in a virtual ceremony. The Education Fund was founded in 1973 by the Price family. Tom Price, an exceptionally dedicated GBMC volunteer, and the legacy of his family’s commitment to education lives on at GBMC through these scholarships.
GBMC President and CEO John Chessare, MD, MPH opened this year’s virtual ceremony by saying, “At GBMC, we hold ourselves up as being a learning organization. Every day, I realize how little I actually know, but the search for new knowledge is what keeps us going as humans, what keeps organizations growing. We, at GBMC, are excited when our employees seek new knowledge, take coursework, and get advanced degrees. But we realize that is a very expensive proposition, so we are grateful for the T. Rowe Price Education Fund.”
This one-of-a-kind program supplements the GBMC Human Resources tuition reimbursement program and assists employees who are pursuing all levels of continuing education and advanced degrees with everything from tuition and books to computer equipment and lab fees.
"It's very meaningful for me because of being a patient," Tom said. "I have been a patient many times. I have undergone three surgeries at GBMC, and they were life-saving. You can't pay that back, but you can try."
