Social Wellbeing

Employee Resource Groups 
These voluntary, employee-led groups whose aim is to foster a diverse, inclusive workplace aligned with the organization's mission, vision, and values. GBMC Healthcare has several ERGs focused on fostering a since of belonging and strengthening our relationships with partners and community, including Greater Pride, Black Alliance, Women’s Leadership Alliance, and Neurodiversity.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Events
Throughout the year, our DEI team and ERGs host events to celebrate and educate about various cultures and experiences. Check your email and the Infoweb to stay up to date.

Peer-to-peer awards
Formally recognize a coworker for exceptional actions, particularly in difficult or challenging circumstances. Examples include extra effort in supporting a patient or employee, covering an additional or special entire shift, going out of their way to provide extra services, working significantly beyond scope of work to support a patient, family, or fellow employee, determining an innovative method of work.

Employee recognition events 
Annually, we show our employees gratitude in a number of ways: the Employee and Volunteer Appreciation BBQ, Employee Recognition Dinner for those celebrating a milestone year of service, the holiday meal in December, distribution of free turkeys in November, are a few examples.

Sick Leave and Vacation Donation
GBMC HealthCare offers paid sick leave, sick leave donation, and vacation donation to support staff.

  • Sick leave donation allows benefit-eligible employees to donate sick time to another benefit-eligible employee who is on an approved Prolonged Medical Leave. View the full policy.

Emotional Wellbeing

Workplace Violence Prevention Program
Workplace violence prevention is a key to making staff feel safe. At GBMC HealthCare, we take this seriously, and tracking it is even part of our strategic dashboard. Please always report workplace violence incidents (whether verbal or physical) via STAR and participate in follow-ups.

This nondenominational tranquil space located in the Louis and Phyllis Friedman Building offers a calm place for reflection and prayer to support staff, patients, and visitors.

Located in an open courtyard outside the Louis and Phyllis Friedman Building, the W. Lee and Mary G. Thomas Healing Garden is a place for patients, families, nurses, and doctors to pause and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Tuition Assistance Program 
GBMC provides eligible employees with certain job-related tuition assistance payments to promote professional growth and help individuals progress in career employment with GBMC! Learn more by visiting the Tuition Assistance Policy in PolicyStat.

Dr. John Adams Compassionate Caregiving Rounds
Held virtually and in-person on the first Wednesday of most months, these rounds are open to ALL employees. They provide a structured forum where all staff, clinical and non-clinical, come together regularly to discuss the emotional and social aspects of working in healthcare. Onsite medical care for work-related injuries
Employee Health Services, located in the Main Hospital, Suite 4904, is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. to offer are and support for work-related screenings, exposures, injuries, immunizations, family medical leave requests, workplace accommodations, and more.

Additionally, EHS offers free flu shots to all GBMC HealthCare employees during scheduled walk-in clinics each fall.

Ergonomic Assessment 
For staff having discomfort while working at their desks, etc., Employee Health provides general guidance.

Vacation Buy Back Program
All vacation-eligible GBMC HealthCare employees who accrue vacation time have the opportunity to “sell back” or donate a portion of their unused vacation time. Use the following form to submit your unused vacation hours.

 

GBMC-paid long term disability insurance (how do staff access this benefit?)
Eligible employees receive 60% of base salary (up to a maximum of $10,000) per month beginning after 180 days of disability. Through Lincoln (disability benefits provider) and benefits team. Contact HR for more information.
