At GBMC, you will see the difference in the volunteer who greets you at the Information Desk; in the care coordinator who follows up with you to manage your chronic disease; in the infusion nurse who brings you lunch because you have been in appointments all day; and in the bariatric surgeon that gives you your life back. The difference at GBMC is the people that deliver the care—our clinical experts, our compassionate caregivers, and our innovative team members—all delivering health, healing and hope to your family.
When the prescription calls for experienced specialty care, GBMC Health Partners has a wide range of clinical specialists who deliver knowledgeable expertise and compassion as they walk patients through every step. Mary Frank, a substitute teacher from Baltimore who had paraoesophageal hernia, loved Dr. Timothee Friesen right away. “He drew pictures to show me exactly what would happen during the surgery, explained everything and answered all of my questions.”
Michelle Zhuravel, RN, BSN, a nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, started her career at GBMC 10 years ago as a Phlebotomist. She followed her mom, who has been a bedside nurse at GBMC for 18 years. “Working in the ICU during COVID has been tough, but we have an awesome team, not just the nurses but the physicians, the attendings, the PAs. We are close, which is super important in nursing. I love the people I work with. I love the patients at GBMC. We have a great community hospital.”
Making a decision about where to begin or enhance your career is never easy. At GBMC, you have access to a supportive management team that values continuous learning and advancement. Michelle Zhuravel, RN, BSN, followed in her mom’s footsteps in becoming a nurse. Currently an RN2 in the SICU, Michelle began her 10-year career at GBMC as a phlebotomist. “I really like bedside nursing. I wanted to go more the leadership route at one point, but personally, I really enjoy taking care of patients. I enjoy being a resource on the unit. To shape new nurses is very satisfying. I have no intention in leaving that, at least right now.”
Arvea Woolridge found someone who listened at GBMC. After a diabetes diagnosis landed her in the hospital, she found a coordinated care team at GBMC to get her health back on track. In building a relationship with a team committed to being accountable for her health with her, Arvea discovered the GBMC difference: "People working together as a team for the common goal of seeing to it that my health becomes better."
"She believed in me," Jewel Allen said of her medical oncologist at GBMC. Cancer is nuanced and complicated. Each patient should be treated as an individual, not simply a diagnosis on a page. GBMC brings together multiple perspectives to ensure each patient benefits from the combined expertise of the entire treatment team, and one of those members is you. It’s important to have a team you trust. Because Jewel’s oncologist believed in her, she is now an advocate for others in their health.
