New Event to Support Nursing
June 7, 2018On April 30, GBMC hosted an event that – while a little unconventional – honored a man who himself was a little unconventional.
The Samuel F. Heffner Jr. Memorial Clay Shoot hosted eight teams of five participants at First Mine Run in Monkton, Md., raising more than $40,000. Long-time supporters of GBMC and board members welcomed new members to the GBMC family on the beautiful Monday to support the H. Norman Baetjer Jr. and Jeanne H. Baetjer Center for Nursing Excellence at GBMC, an area near and dear to the late Philanthropy Committee chair, Sam Heffner's, heart.
Sam's wife, Gail, was a registered nurse for many years and Sam held all nurses in high esteem, always wanting them to feel valued for the incredible work they do behind the scenes. Sam was not the only one passionate about our nurses and the sport of skeet shooting; Mr. and Mrs. Baetjer were avid shooters as well. Having this inaugural event to benefit the nursing center that bears their name is a perfect fit.
The Baetjer Center for Nursing Excellence supports nurses at all points in their career, promoting lifelong learning and quality patient care by using evidence-based practice and the latest technology to give nurses the tools to treat patients with the best care.
Thank you to everyone who attended or donated to the Baetjer Center in Sam's honor. We look forward to next year!
